Soaring Through Infinity

Soaring Through Infinity is an exciting space odyssey, filled with adventure, suspense, and beauty.  Big brass fanfares and wistful woodwind melodies capture the vastness and mystery of space.  This piece was written in collaboration with the Oregon Middle School Band of Oregon, WI.  Students were asked to choose some themes, and I would base the piece around them.  We selected “outer space,” “adventure,” and “mystery.”  I created a loose story around these ideas that are marked at the appropriate sections in the score: Ignition…, blast-off!, soaring through infinity, the nebula, fuel leak, a daring rescue, and a triumphant return.  These sections work to create a structural framework for the piece that ends in dramatic flourish.
