Caprice

Caprice is a quick and light-hearted composition that explores two main ideas.  The first is a hocketed sixteenth note motive that highlights the differing timbres of muted brass, followed by a reply in the woodwinds.  The second idea is a cascading fanfare that is marked by longer phrases and rhythmic durations.  The piece unfolds with the interaction of the two ideas as they are combined and rearranged in various manners, with increases in dynamic and density in instrumentation until the irreverent clash in the horn, bassoon, and snare drum at the end.

Duration: 3 min.
