A Study in Red

A Study in Red is written in a sultry tango style, dripping with seductively curled string glissandi and woodwind flourishes.  The piece begins with a smoky and mysterious air that settles into chords played by the brass, flavored with gentle brushstrokes of the avant garde.  This is followed by a bold proclamation by the trombones accentuated by the ever-assertive slapstick, which builds into a wild and heated dance.  Bawdy trombone glissandi and brash percussion whirl around the melody, which ultimately give way to a delicate, fluttery coda.
